We all know that regulation is coming (yay! We think) but there has been a little flurry on the chat groups that level 7 will be mandatory and without it you will not be able to continue. So should we all be rushing out to find a level 7 course ASAP before they hike the price of the courses up and we without it we have to down tools?
Personally …I’d hang fire a little longer and here’s why:
This is not confirmed as of yet
It’s likely we will get notice of what the regulations are
Not all training courses are equal (or good!) so you could spend an awful lot of money that simply doesn’t go in to the level of detail needed
There are level 7 courses which you need an allied level 6 qualification which in our case would be a degree. There are also “level 7” courses which is just a name…
There are other options. It appears to be Level 7 or equivalent/above so a diploma or masters would cover that. You may decide that you would prefer to add this as opposed to a level 7 to expand your knowledge
If you look historically e.g. when dental nurses had to register with the GDC nurses were able to register under the “grand fathering” scheme based on previous experience. It is likely that something similar, at least in part, will also be brought in.
So that’s why right now I’m sitting tight. This is my only job (no back up income!) so this is genuine advice from me to you. If you do decide to crack on with level 7, choose wisely, ask around for decent courses and make sure you have the money and time to take it on.
